The corporate FTP server has gone down, an internal
Web server isn't available, access to a remote site
is failing. How do you know that these incidents
occur, except when the phone starts ringing? These
could be critical systems for the enterprise and you
need to know when they are down.
This session will discuss the Hobbit network services
monitor. Hobbit is an open source application and
can watch systems and the services running on them
and can show you or alert you when they are down.
The installation, configuration and reporting features
of Hobbit will be shown, including how Hobbit interfaces
with zSeries operating systems.

The z/VM Control Program (CP) - Useful Things to Know,
Come to this session for an introduction to the z/VM
Control Program (CP) and to learn about some of the
things ('what') it does for you. After an overview of
CP and how it uses disk space, storage, and devices,
we'll cover starting (IPLing) your z/VM system, defining
virtual machines, virtual networking, and various ways
you can interact with CP.

The z/VM Control Program (CP) - Under the Covers,
Come to this session for a look under the covers at ('how')
CP operates, including the steps it takes to IPL and shut
down CP and how CP manages storage (memory) and processor
resources among virtual machines so they can do their work
efficiently. We'll also cover diagnostic information that
can be useful for testing and problem determination.

Performance Toolkit for VM,
The Performance Toolkit for VM is a priced feature that
is pre-installed on z/VM V4R4 and V5 systems. This session
will start with a brief background on the Toolkit and its
uses. The remainder of the session will describe the
reports that were added in support of large real memory
in z/VM 5.2.0. This will include identifying which of the
many new variables are most important to monitor.
